Never heard of it but a quick search tells me it should be solid unhinged fun. Also: Sela Ward, Ronny Cox and Bernie Casey??? Colonel Rhombus himself?

Oh for sure.  Twitter taps directly into the control center of peoples’ egos with predictable results.

Let’s just say I remember when it was released.

Edge of Tomorrow is one of the best sci fi movies of the last 20 years.  I think what made it subversive was the timing of release.  Cruise was at a weird place culturally and a lot of people were amused by the idea of seeing him die a few dozen times.  That’s an unusual marketing hook.

Yeah it’s a completely different animal from the sequels that followed. I know it gets compared to Alien/Aliens and the Rocky movies for the sequel pivot, but those mostly took what was in the original and blew it up bigger. Other than the rampage at the end of First Blood, there’s almost no connective tissue with Ramb

It probably helped that the trailer plays the movie completely straight. There’s no hint that the film is a satire. Even within the movie it’s not until you get a couple of the propaganda clips under your belt that it becomes apparent.

Fair. The other dude (pulled the gun on Troutman) was more of a squid anyway. Kove always looked like he could fuck somebody up.

That whole sequence is great.

IIRC for Iron Man he was either uninsurable or extremely expensive because of his prior drug problems.

Has Kove every played anyone other than a mustache-twirling villain? If ever there was a guy born with the face for onscreen assholery, it’s him.

Username checks out.

The scheduling of each release was meant for readers to track the aging of the characters. The first book is geared for a kid around 11 or 12. Pretty solid marketing - how many other books had midnight release parties with thousands in line down the sidewalk?

It’s entirely possible the two have never even met each other. He played a supporting role in one film.  Why did she need to jump in here??

Which is why I don’t understand her need to constantly insert herself into this conversation. People have opinions about this subject, and it’s highly unlikely that Rowling will influence them one way or another. To the limited extent she may, it’s probably to make people who don’t want to come off as assholes more

Can’t argue against the fact that she got millions of kids reading again. There weren’t too many kids lining up to read 700-page books before HP came along.

My thought since I first heard of the bathroom this has been...how would you even know? There aren’t any urinals, every person in women’s room is in a stall.

She had the benefit of seeing how the first couple of books sold before the movies went into production. There were at least two books published by the time she sold the movie rights.

Especially in situations like this, where the only connection to the person in question is acting in one of the movies based upon her books.  There was zero need for Rowling to say anything at all here.

Not just getting into, inserting herself into.

It definitely seems to be one that brings very little joy to the people who are good at it.  I guess it’s so competitive to keep a restaurant open that without that constant drive things can go sideways in a hurry.
