They’re absurdly bad, and look like something you’d see on a tour of a studio backlot, left over from a forgotten 80s science fiction movie. There’s at least one near me and the only commentary I’ve heard from anyone is “who IS this idiot??”

Waititi probably thought he was being supportive of someone who has been mistreated or misunderstood. Turns out this is just Yi’s MO.  Oops.

I’m still trying to figure out what the fuck was going on in their scene with Leslie Mann in This Is 40. Was that actually scripted or (hopefully) improvised?  I find Yi distracting every time out.

This isn’t proper English.  It’s confusing, and pointing that out doesn’t make someone a bad human being.

Yeah, a super-strong child who doesn’t know how to control it! Duh.

And them mocked them for it.  Oh, did that hurt?  Bwahahaha!

More surprising that they keep getting hired. Brings nothing but cringe to every project, so it’s not like a lack of their presence would be a loss.  Meanwhile the producers, director and co-stars are likely to get dragged.  Pass.

I think that’s why the next one will have to be something fairly different. This one looks a whole lot like Fury Road. Which makes sense and I’m not complaining, but a third in this style would almost certainly be diminishing returns.

I think that’s all exactly right. There’s no indication in MM that they’re concerned about imminent nuclear war. It’s that areas outside cities have become lawless and mostly uncontrollable.

Yeah there’s a massive retcon between Mad Max and The Road Warrior (including repurposing a bunch of the MM footage for the RW intro). In the first he’s a cop in a society that’s losing control, especially at the edges, but it’s not post-apocalyptic. By TRW there’s been a nuclear WWIII and the MM carnage is the result

Wrong old Max!

Spoilers - yes. He’s a troubled kid’s IF

God help me that actually looks kind of funny.

Or an Inside Out spinoff?

There just aren’t that many film actors with true range. Even the biggest stars like Pitt mostly just riff on their own personas. He and Clooney are hysterical when acting like himbos, but that’s mostly because they’re long-established leading men.

For a long while people claimed, not without reason, that Walk Hard killed the genre.  I guess enough time has elapsed.

Seems like most of the drama in her life came from being severely fucked up most of the time, so I’m not surprised that if her family wanted to scrub much of that from the story then there wasn’t a whole lot left to hang a story around.

Maybe, but I agree this usage absolutely nailed the whole movie in a single shot.  I’m not going to slog through the research to see if any had done it previously, but 40YO perfected it.

Her left shoulder is a few inches broader than her right.  Freaky indeed.

Comedies and horror films are 100% communal experiences.  Laughter and fear and highly contagious.  Borat remains probably my all-time #1 moviegoing experience.  By the time they got to the hotel lobby scene people were crying, slipping out of their seats and begging for a break.  Hopefully I’ll see that again at some
