Their annual Christmas joke swap is all-time for WE. It’s fun to watch comedians get to cut loose more than the confines of the show will usually allow. I’d love to see a full-R, don’t-give-a-fuck episode of SNL.

The authors are right about Samberg’s impact on how audiences interacted with SNL, and the Lonely Island digital shorts are all so delightfully unhinged that they stand up to some of the show’s all-time best filmed work.  He wasn’t great in sketches but that’s not what he was really there for.

Agree on switching Bennett for Moynihan.  The latter has never felt like more than a place filler.

Hosts of various stripes are obviously his niche at this point but yeah he slays me every time.  The character is often the audience surrogate so his little asides feel conspiratorial.

Yeah me mostly floated above most of what the other cast members were dealing with (until he was dragged into it, usually by Kramer). He was sort of the audience surrogate.

Because their main Gen X fan base grew up on physical media and listening to entire albums as opposed to downloading or streaming singles.

Not hard to do when your typical piece is 300 words.

I don’t know, I feel like there have been more longer pieces, wider array of reviews, etc. over recent weeks.  It may take time for some of the old habits to die but I’m somewhat optimistic.

Really enjoying The Gentlemen Netflix show so far. It’s fun to watch Vinnie quietly patroling around. I’m only a few episodes in so far and waiting to see when he finally gets to do some violence.

Fair to say Prepon took the only course available - stay the hell out of it.

Interestingly, I’m Gen X and have seen a number of people reconnect romantically with high school sweethearts or just former friends.  Probably a better success rate than people who get married right out of college.

The 80s was the last decade to have a highly specific look and musical style that was distinctly different from what came later. As others have mentioned the 90s open shirt over t-shirt / jeans look is commonplace today, but it never fully went away. Yeah flannel went out with Grunge but that’s about it. The only

Parents know things.

Stewart’s not wrong here. This level of hyperbole is why people tune out - not every little thing is the story of the century but man these networks can’t seem to help themselves. They haven’t even finished jury selection and three different anchors use the exact same “walls are closing in!” line.  Also the reveal

Subscribers may want to be able to binge it, but from a marketing perspective I agree it makes more sense to build some anticipation and word of mouth by stretching it out a bit.

I’m only going to post this onces, but it’s for about half the commenters on this thread.

A friend of a friend is the guy who signed him for Sony Records 10 years ago. He got a call from a scout he knows somewhere in Ireland where Hozier had just performed basically saying “you need to get here now before someone beats you to it.” He flew over immediately and signed during the visit. Less than a year later

Hey, it’s Stevie from Schitt’s Creek!  She’s awesome (and cute)!

That was my thought as well. Not that Bushleaguer had anything to do with Bush’s election prospects, but that nakedly political PJ / Vedder songs are typically cringingly bad. This one’s pretty damn good and I’d say benefits from being a little less obvious in its delivery.  I’ve heard a few songs off the new record
