Unfortunately, we don’t yet have the same ammo as Nixon’s investigators did. Remember, the GOPee members of the Watergate committee were poised to vote AGAINST impeachment right up until the tapes came out. It took that kind of evidence to get them to do the right thing.

And four whole Democratic Presidential administration years later the republicans and the Constitutional crisis inflicted by Nixon gave us proto-Trump. The republicans have never been adequately punished by the electorate for any of their bullshit starting with Nixon. They won’t be now. The only lesson they learned

Right? We have the touch screen crap for everything on our Lincolns, and I hate it. I hate having to guess how quickly I’m increasing the volume. I hate having to guess how many taps it’ll take to get the heat where I want. I hate having to go through a menu to change something as simple as the source.

And KNOBS!

Ugh, touch screens are THE WORST.

This is such a stupid way of thinking. Wow.

I went to lunch with a guy the other day who didn’t put his seat belt on. I asked him why and he said it was because the government required him to. I did a straw poll back at the office and this thought process was more widespread than I thought.

Human beings have adapted since the beginning of time. West Virginia is not exempt from this. They built an entire state on a single industry that became obsolete. Whoops. Guess putting all your eggs in one basket wasn’t a very good idea.

Republican supporters prefer government handouts go to big corporations.

There have been way more retail job losses than there are current coal miners. The only reason people care more about coal miners is because they are white men and retail employees are often black women. It says a lot about the state of journalism in this country where one is reported and the other isn’t.

Best article Ive read on Kinja in a while- great research, and indepth anaylsis. The wealth divide in this world is disgusting and is the root of many of the problems. It is part of why people to dive into religion, so that they dont think their life is meaningless and allows them to pretend like they will be

It’s worth adding that religion plays a huge part in the swing to the GOP. Church attendance in WV is stagnant overall, but those who go to church tend to vote at higher rates, and the pastors, ministers and priests in the state are very much a part of the sellout of religious institutions to right wing ideals.

The currency for much of West Virginia is still scrip, it’s just now scrips for Oxycontin and Vicodin.

Fuck em.

Fucking thank you. You hate women, the LGBTQ community, and POC so much that you’re willing to sacrifice your own financial future? Die in a fire, morons.

Once again another piece on the poor white worker that doesn’t get into the exclusion efforts that these workers practiced for decades as a reason for being left behind. The failure to progress and be inclusive is a major reason for the current state of the white blue collar worker. They voted against their interest

“West Virginians’ dislike for the Democratic Party’s positions on hot-button social issues has become stronger than their affinity for the party on economic issues.”

I want to feel sorry for places like this, i really do. But pretending that the wider world doesn’t exist and you can magically bring the past back to life is delusional.

Great piece HamNo. Thanks for this, sincerely.

Revolution for a lost cause.
