Volkwagon ID’s.

Are we sure a Mustang didn’t hit the Tesla first? Or is there a Mustang engine in the car? I kid. Although with the recent jumping of the Model S plaid, perhaps Tesla drivers are going to steal the dumb dumb crown from Mustang owners.

Saving this explanation. THANKS!

Just wanted to say, welcome to F1! You picked a great year to start watching.

Got it. Makes sense. Thanks!

As for the locations of the DRS zones, they typically get placed on two straights where they’ll give the most opportunity to pass, with F1 making those calls.

Yes, they can get it.  I want to say that there was a race last year that was essentially decided by that fact (I want to say Mexico?)

As long as you’re within 1s of any car in front of you as you pass the detection zone, you get DRS.

Yup, the leader would get DRS in that case as well as long as they are within 1s of a car even if the car ahead is about to be lapped. Pretty recently this somewhat influenced the closing laps of the US GP ‘21

how do DRS zones work?

The leader can get DRS if he’s within 1s of a backmarker as well

Thanks! What if the person in P1 is within 1s of the person in P20? Would the race leader then get DRS or is it only for drivers who are NOT in 1st and are within 1s of the car in front of them?

If you’re within 1s of the car ahead when passing the detection zone, you get DRS on the next straight in the specified area

Great news and good article. Okay fellow race fans...F1 noob here. Watched very first race on Sunday much like Jalop writer Steve DaSilva (borrowed Sling account that has ESPN...check out his post from yesterday). Loved it...but how do DRS zones work? Also like Steve DaSilva I’m mystified by DRS zones. Do all drivers

Great idea. It would also be interesting to see an article on early Japanese small pick ups. Like the Mazda B2000 series. I’d read the crap out of those articles.

Hilarious. Also...no thanks on the offer for your alternative experience!

Idea for a Forgotten Cars article: the Honda Civic del Sol.  I wanted one SO BAD when I was in high school...especially with the 5-speed and that lime green color (NOT the teal color that adorned later models...the Civic coupe I ended up with instead was that color and it did not hold up well).

“smell like years of accumulated farts” If you want that experience without a security clearance, I’ve been driving the same car for 8 years while living on a diet of Taco Bell.

2.5 seconds slower per lap is an eternity. Over 12 hours of racing it adds up to a 13.5 minute delta.
