It was a big week for Kevin Bacon as a movie villain last week.

Wow. I think JLC’s performances in each of her 3 episodes have made me understand the other main characters’ issues so much better. She plays it big, yet still gets every small detail right.
I almost yelled the screen when they killed Kevin Bacon without asking him who hired him
My mother and I have a... contentious relationship and this episode straight up had my skin crawling. I could barely watch it, it made me so anxious.
It was a great episode but I think it could’ve been better if it was shorter. The first 18 minutes seemed to be Jamie Lee Curtis just screaming. I know actors think being constantly intense seems ‘authentic’, but it gets a bit boring after a certain amount of time.
Side note: the Chicago-based actor who plays Nat’s obstetrician, Keith Kupferer, is the lead in the extraordinary movie Ghostlight, and everyone should absolutely see it.
“Chinatown” is his obvious masterpiece screenplay, but people don’t give enough love to “The Last Detail.” I bet I’ve watched it twenty times over the years. The dialogue is hilarious and eventually heartbreaking, and Jack Nicholson was never, ever better. His performance ranks with his work in “Cuckoo’s Nest,” and…
thanks for the edit - i stand corrected.
It was William Goldman not Towne who advised Affleck and Damon on the Good Will Hunting Script.
I LOVE that Days of Thunder is on his roster. That movie is such gloriously dumb fun (and of course looks great). Meanwhile The Firm and first MI are tight as hell.
I actually just watched it for the first time a few weeks ago (I know, I know, back off). Talk about living up to a reputation. What a script.
Tarantino is most often mentioned as the script doctor on Crimson Tide, but that was just a few dialogue scenes. Seems Towne did the most work and I’m betting that he contributed to the plots greatest strength - it’s brevity. It’s lean and fast as a torpedo and with everything i’ve read about and by Towne, i bet he…
Appropriately, it was Matt Schimkowitz’ dog who typed the section about Greystoke.
RIP. I still consider Chinatown my all-time favorite movie, and I was always kind of proud of how influential my hometown of Eugene, OR was to his career.
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Youngsters
I would like the point out Nathan Rabin’s Happy Place, the website he’s been running for about 8 years. There’s some good stuff on there. He’s just started reviewing Red Drawf:
Caroline Siede/When Romance Met Comedy or gtfo (I know she’s of a later AVC era, but her writing was excellent)
My World of Flops
Having seen this mess of a movie and then obsessively read through all the pre-release material available, I’m willing to bet that Johnson is right: There was a good movie here at one point. Well, if not “good,” then at least “fun in a dumb way.”
