What I don’t understand is the NFL is a billion dollar industry and not every team has cheerleaders so paying for everything mentioned here isn’t going to affect profits very much.

Being around someone for a bit in 1996 doesn’t equate to a friendship. Most of us could get away with letting go of an interaction from 1996, but Ellen and Rosie are celebrities. Millions of people see them interact and it sticks in their mind as well and then Ellen says they’re not friends and the viewers feel…

Kate probably does not like Meghan.  Kate gets with the program, while Meghan does not, which calls the entire program into question.  Kate has less room to hate Harry as he is her husband’s brother.  It has to be a lot easier for Kate to bitch to William about Kate than about Harry. 

Not unfair, to be sure, but I also wouldn’t go out of my way to say that I was “not friends” with someone I had met and knew, and didn’t have any sort of acrimony with.  Seems gratuitously rude, if nothing else!

To be fair, people have wildly different views on what constitutes friend, acquaintance, or “I don’t know her.”
