They could probably get around the budget issues of a missing nose by having Tyrion do a Tycho Brahe and put on a metal prosthetic nose for most scenes. The bigger problem is that a prosthetic nose would realistically make his voice sound weird, which wouldn't work well for TV.

After watching Young Adult this weekend, and seeing what a great villain she played in that movie (which was basically told in the vein of the "villain is the hero of their own story" POV), I am actually excited to see this. Charlize Theron is REALLY good at playing horrible people.
