I never really liked Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail as much as everyone else. My favorite 90s romantic comedy is probably French Kiss. (And Dave’s fun too. Gotta love Kevin Kline.)
Oh man.
Her website crashed hardcore.
Good for her!
I know I’ve said this before, but You’ve Got Mail is such a great snapshot of late 1990s culture — you have the excitement over the Internet and yet it is so early on that giant bookstores are considered the threat to indy bookstores rather than Amazon.
Oh, yes. Very much so. I will also echo my comment in this thread re Broadcast News
When Harry Met Sally is still arguably the gold-standard when it comes to modern romantic comedies.
I’ve always found it funny when people dismiss the genre as being too “unrealistic.”
Great article. Can’t wait for future installments—especially when/if you write about my personal fave, When Harry Met Sally. Bridget Jones may be my second-favorite; Zellweger and Grant and Firth’s chemistry mixes together extremely well, and like you said its greatness is due in part to how much it focuses on…
Well then, don’t click on that link about guys on Reddit describing how they have sex with coconuts.
Padma is a bottle of wine in by the time judging is taking place.
The cat song was the hardest I’d laughed at any song this season...until about a minute later when the Trent theme song happened.
The “All Things Considered” apron. Kills me every time.
I’m so glad there was an explicit version of the cats song. For me, it just didn’t work when she was singing that she wanted a “buttload of cats.” I mean, what the hell is a “buttload” of cats?
Fuck it, here’s where everyone ends up:
Or I could sit back and observe while all the terrible people here defend terrible actions by terrible people with terrible motives...all while denigrating me...thus proving my point.
No. If you revel in watching people do stupid and harmful things to themselves or others, you just have a low regard for the well-being of others. It’s common enough, but nobody who does should ever pretend they are just as caring and respectful as those who don’t .
Never saw a single episode or even a single scene. I find no joy in watching people do that kind of stuff to themselves and I find anyone who does to be a bad person. But maybe that’s just me...
lol
