I can't see how youTube is staying afloat, financially. It must be insanely expensive to maintain, and it doesn't seem to generate any revenue for Google. Same question about Twitter, actually.

That's the popular assumption. But trolling comes from the fishing term. Just like the trolling boat casts one net that collects fish en masse without caring what kind they are, a troll casts one comment that collects angry responses.
