I do not see why any of us should give a fuck about being able to no longer attack the GOP on sexual harrassment, when there’s still racism, sexism, income inequality, trying to control women’s bodies and everybody’s bedroom, etc.

This is the most 2020 headline ever.

We are being asked to consider allegations from 1993 based solely on statements of the alleged victim and some alleged second and third hand witnesses, and nothing else. This is all we have to go on and consider, apart from being trapped in a quandary liberals put themselves in.

Is this really the hill you want to die on? All of kavanaugh’s classmates who recall him pulling his pants down and shoving his penis into women’s faces at numerous parties? Not a pattern, same as touching hair.

Spiking drinks at his prep school to target girls? Not a pattern, same as touching hair.

Are you not aware of the number of women who claim forward during his nomination process? Or the numerous people who told reporters that they want to get in touch with the FBI investigating claims but were turned away? Or that reporters that found dozens of witnesses who corroborated accounts and remembered similar

You must have gotten a different version of the “Brett Kavanaugh Defense Playbook” because I can’t imagine “lack of pattern of behavior” “not discovered during previous background checks” “victim not willing to name accuser in legal documents” were part of that playbook because all of those do not apply to his case.

... except that the allegations against senior Republicans like trump demonstrate existing patterns and have been verified enough to warrant civil suits and legal complains that mention the accuser by name. None of which exist in this case.

Yea, ok I will not be surprised when a political party whose entire existence depends on bad faith arguments makes a bad faith argument. Thanks for the heads up, bro.

It’s not like a criminal background check, it’s much more invasive. It’s ridiculous to pretend the vetting process for a VP candidate would be a cursory glance at their voting history and poltiical “etc.” If they miss anything it could destroy a presidential campaign that had millions of dollars and thousands of hours

First, let me say that I like you and I apologize in advance for my tone.

Because “listen to women” means “every woman should be unequivocally believed without qualification”?

In all honesty what are we supposed to do when one 20+ year old allegation that can’t be substantially verified is used to discredit the likely nominee of the D primary?

I disagree with basically everything you’ve said here, but let’s just cut to the chase. Nothing anyone can say will convince me that Trump is the lesser of two evils. Nothing.

I’m personally around 95% disbelief of the story. There are so many red flags with the story. She has three corroborating witnesses, but one doesn’t want to go on the record and the other, her brother, was pretty much coached to change his story by the editor of Current Affairs. Her neighbor only recently came forward

Also wrong! It’s “Reeve.”

“More good” is one way to look at it. I’m taking the “more likely” route.

Sometimes you will only be presented with shitty choices. You pick the less shitty option and try to limit the damage. It’s not that complicated.

Believe women. But decide it’s still not a good enough reason for Trump to get re-elected (If you think this pandemic is bad, imagine Trump at the head of the recovery effort). Bemoan your pragmatic and cynical nature but accept it’s just how you’re built. Get on with it.

I’m so fucking pissed. There are/were so many other excellent candidates and for some godawful reason (sexism, racism) we got this guy who if he didn’t actually assault Reade is so problematic on women’s issues that it’s never even been questioned. Why are we wringing our hands having to choose between these 2 creepy

Starting with “indigenous knowledge” and then “travel[ing] through time” to “modern rituals of art, dance, and creativity” is a classic example of making indigenous cultures into what Eric Wolf called “the People without History.” Whether in the Urals or the Andes or the Adirondacks, indigenous people were constantly
