Omg, I’m in EXACTLY the same situation with my high school best friend of 20+ years. I went home in October to see her new house and she had 4 (FOUR!) Trump signs in her front yard, her profile picture on Facebook was of her young daughter leaning up against one.
Someone on Twitter shared the full video of this event and I really didn’t think I’d want to watch the whole thing, but... last night, I stayed up until 2am watching video of this little turd getting boo-ed. It made me feel so hopeful and reinvigorated to continue resisting. Those paid protesters and coastal elites…
I’m wondering how others since have been able to read the words without being sidelined? (Aside from the obvious, they’re men.)
I’d also never heard of this and am off to find season 1 somewhere!
My (former) best friend is a public school teacher in Michigan who voted for Trump who now has DeVos as the secretary of education. She teaches in a low-income school district. She’s said NOTHING on social media about DeVos and it’s frustrating me SO MUCH.
YES! This movie is THE BEST!
This is a really good point - I hope the organizers of the strike give some alternatives for people who feasibly can’t strike (or who would be putting at-risk communities MORE at-risk by a day off). Maybe there could be a solidarity movement (similar to those damn pussy hats) that could link workers to the strike…
I think the goal is that you’re not doing it for yourself, but for the people who DON’T have a great boss. I’ve worked many hourly jobs where this would have meant I would lose wages and could lose my job for not showing up to work. I now have a great boss who also marched and we have an unlimited PTO policy. I know…
Isn’t it possible to participate at a level that isn’t “all or nothing” if missing one day of work would be terribly detrimental to your career? As someone else mentioned, it’s possible to not spend money that day. Also, as other have mentioned, look for businesses nearby that support the strike and patronize them…
I actually just picked up “Their Eyes Were Watching God” at the library yesterday! :)
Perfect! Thank you!
Thank you! This, alone, is worth the post. It sounds incredible and exactly what I’m looking to read more of to understand the experience of other people.
I’m trying to make an effort to read mostly books written by WOC this year, and I’d love recommendations for my reading list from Jezzies. I especially enjoy memoir/essays, short stories, and prefer fiction rooted in a real word (even if it is a post-apocalyptic one like “Station 11"). I just finished “Bad Feminist”…
Where is the best place to donate to their legal fund?
I read one Jodi Picoult book (My Sister’s Keeper) and based on that, I have to think that this is garbage and Voila Davis deserves more.
I feel like such a nerd for liking this ABC show so much, but I look forward to it every week.
Due to some logistical bus issues, I logged 25,000! (we ended up parking about 2 miles away, then had to walk an extra mile while trying to find the bus at the end PLUS the march.) I was ready to LIVE on that bus once we found it! :D
I look forward to this guy keeping it up - his behavior will undoubtedly influence women (and maybe some men) away from voting for his re-election. This is all just material for us to bring up the next time he runs...
