I was the biggest Clash fan you could possibly imagine when LONDON CALLING came out, and at the time, it completely felt like a 1980 album: so totally and completely different from what they'd been doing previously that it HAD to represent a brand-new decade.

1979 was such a key year for me
It was the year where I was fully and finally committed to punk rock, and getting ignored by schoolmates who didn't wanna hear about The Clash or Ramones or The Jam. It also made me appreciate authenticity and idiosyncracy in non-punkers, too. And, unlike other people who fell in love

Bob Dylan > Maureen Dowd
In fact, her entire output combined doesn't even come close to, say, "Visions of Johanna"

Frank Burns in Charge of the 4077th
What this reminded me the most of was the single episode of M*A*S*H where Frank Burns was in charge. While the story beats were different — no way THE OFFICE was going to do a COMMUNITY-style homage — the basic premise was the same: what would happen if THAT GUY somehow was in

Agreed with the A+ love here. Probably my all-time favorite TNG (and thus, my all-time favorite Star Trek ep), and quite possibly the greatest "alternate universe" episode in any TV show ever. Maybe Buffy's "Dopplegangland" comes close, but this has Patrick Stewart completely killing it from start to finish.

This isn't surprising
I'm sure that the historical comparison that the makers of THE OFFICE are hoping to emulate is that of MASH, where the departures of Henry Blake, Trapper John & Frank Burns were mitigated by the completely different characters of Sherman Potter, BJ Hunnicutt (sic?) & Charles Winchester.

A Critique of Ro's Beliefs
That's an interesting contrast with the Moore-run DS9, which essentially spent 7 seasons validating Bajoran beliefs.

I'm one of those fans
It was weird, of course, to have Gorman & his small crew in my house, but the second we started talking about the 'mats, it was like I'd gotten into a conversation with a guy sitting in a bar wearing a REPLACEMENTS STINK T-shirt.

Karen Sisco
Karen Sisco felt like it was just getting going when it got canceled, though I'd sure like to watch it again to make sure. Netflix, get on that!

GLEE vs. Kings of Leon
The 2011 version of Donald Trump vs. Rosie O'Donnell. In that while neither one of them win, but we all lose.

Wait a second! You're saying that musicians borrow from each other? ::monocle pops off::

What a shame
It wasn't like TERRIERS wasn't completely accessible, or aimed at a niche audience. In a lot of ways, the complete and utter failure of a show that had such brilliant writing and acting, and so deftly combined drama and comedy is completely astounding.

The Best Christmas Present
The best Christmas present I ever got my wife was a framed 24x36 poster of "Once More With Feeling." It hangs in our living room near our TV even now.

Three Full Years!
It was such a cause celebre that it took Bruce three full years — legal troubles or no — to release a follow-up to BORN TO RUN that people didn't notice that it was a harbinger of things to come.

That Cliffhanger
Even at the time, to me the cliffhanger was more about how they were going to get Picard back than the specific consequence of Riker's "fire" order.

The Fake Previouslies
One of the things I really loved about this show was that nearly every week, they would have at least one thing in the "Previously on Children's Hospital" prologue that they had never shown.

Not "The Army" but "Army."
One of my favorite running jokes about the "Buster Joins The Army" plotline was that Buster himself usually referred to it as "Army," not "The Army"

This Was When I Decided that Janice Ruled
After a season where she'd been nothing but whiny, underhanded and annoying, just coming out and killing Richie for simply hitting her was awesome. Especially since it seemed to come out of nowhere.

Why Does Betty Have to be A Pretty Little Doll as a Youth?
"…and Betty's disappointment that Sally wasn't a perfect, pretty little doll like Betty must have been as a youth was always acutely expressed."

That's interesting, because what I think that Tony gets out of the visits with Melfi is almost a courtship level of taking about himself. Right? That part where you're telling your prospective partner all of the stuff about yourself in order to almost test to see if they'd be willing to still be with you?
