There is no progress in automotive world, rather we are moving back. In 60s, 70s 80 % of cars had V8 engines, nowadays about 30 %. Cars are slower because of environment protection and fuel efficiency concern. 

3.5 V6 Chrysler engine up to 2010 is bulletproof.

If oil companies will really care about Tesla, they could make around 1 $ fuel price up to second quarter of 2019 and then they will not be Tesla Motors anymore. But Tesla inst big enemy for them.
