I wasn't contesting that. I'm just saying the Bloom isn't an entirely new creation, the character has a textual origin in Harris' novel.

Well Alana Bloom isn't really a new creation. She's based off Dr. Alan Bloom who works at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Chicago and is a consultant to the FBI behavioral-science section in Red Dragon. They just changed the sex of the character because the show was a bit sausage heavy.
