why? because they know that releasing so closely after win 7 release (yes 3 years is close for microsoft) most people would stay with win 7 and not upgrade....

it is a risk because they decide to expand on vista....

@dsh: i bet they have... but truth is that earth is exposed to an impact any time, of course from asteroids coming from our solar system's asteroid belt, i think it would take like 3 mins for one of those to reach earth... but once again chances are so slim that nobody worries about it.
