It was a season full of bullshit all, around, really. Not surprising this is how it ended.
My mom was a tiny lady with an almost unbreakable will... keyword being almost — she had already survived a violent home invasion and a sexual assault, but with her body broken after being run over, she couldn’t continue being a teacher, even after all the intense physical therapy, so she retired. Her body was never…
Armed Robbery automatically makes it a felony. Also, as others have mentioned, the person they carjacked could have died had they not complied and even then sometimes victims get shot and killed even after complying.
You also speak as someone who has not been the victim of a violent crime. My mom was actually ran over…
I think most reasonable people see “not complying” as a secondary cause of death with “carjacking at gunpoint” being the primary cause. With that in mind, I think the general principle driving the responses here is, “if you threaten an innocent person’s life, turnabout is fair play.”
If you commit a crime you don’t deserve to die, thats now what people are saying. But if you commit a crime and act recklessly while doing so and kill yourself, then thats a different story
I don’t know if I’d say people are happy they’re dead. More like, “yeah, that’s pretty much what I expected would happen”. Maybe they’re happy or smug that they were correct in their prediction.
I say we chop the hand off of thieves like they used to do. Unless it’s stolen food or actual survival items, I can get that. But there is no reason to steal any material possessions.
not much sympathy for someone that is willing to take from others by force with a weapon. Do I wish them dead? No. Am I sad they are? Also no.
They get to own the result of their choices. A better decision here or there and they’d still be alive, but here we are with another Jalopnik piece attributing these deaths to the police.
You should really think before replying. In no way was this a ‘comply or die’ situation.
The issue here is that it was an ARMED carjacking and a violent crime and not just an issue of personal property theft. This is different from when a car is just boosted from a driveway or when a vehicle is taken from someone without a weapon. Car jackings with weapons often result in bad outcomes from the victims and…
They’re not dead because of the police. They’re dead because of their own stupid actions.
Well, actually, getting multiple DWI’s and then getting yourself killed driving drunk is a very reasonable outcome in my books. Getting shot while poaching on private land is, likewise, a pretty reasonable outcome in many cases.
In very few cases of anything does anyone ever “deserve” to die. Rather, certain activities have high likelihood of death as an outcome. Perform armed car-jackings and I believe your risk of early death naturally goes up.
Says the guy who has never had a pistol shoved in his face....
Tucks his ears into flatbrim hats.
This is Jalopnik - most here don’t care of the two men just got done serial raping 8 year olds at the local grade school, robbed a bank, and tossed a litter of puppies in front of a train - NO POLICE CHASES ALLOWED!
So if the cops never pursued the car, and the suspect went on to rob more people at gunpoint, and possibly shot and killed one or more people in the process, I’m assuming you would agree that “it is unfortunate that those people had to die, but at least there was no police chase!” Right?
Even if the driver is using whatever indicators their vehicle has, in personal experience, it’s still a gamble on which way they’re going to turn.
