The Rey Rivera case is very sad and weird. IMO the sketchy financial stuff and weird behaviours seem suspicious of something more than just mental health issues, but there’s not been any further evidence to back that up.  Mainly I just feel really bad for his family, their grief was so palpable in that episode that it

Totally. It’s weird, I saw much worse things when I was way too young that made no impact on me whatsoever, but disaster movies really freaked me out.

The Day After Tomorrow gave me such horrific anxiety as a kid that I couldn’t even look at the dvd case. I was definitely an anxious little freak anyway but I still wouldn’t call it family friendly.

I have a stupidly tender heart and celebrity deaths hit me hard all the time, but Carrie Fisher’s death, only a day or so after George Michael’s, really fucking hurt. Also Heath Ledger, god. That still breaks my heart.

Yeah, rewarding (mainly white) men for bad behaviour, giving them infinite second chances because we’re so beholden to the potential of their ~genius~ is kind of the whole issue. The many articles I’ve read about the CA lawsuit didn’t give me the impression of what you’ve said at all, but I’ll do some more reading

Second this with my whole heart. If I even *think* about Sam and Frodo, I get teary. The huge emotional catharsis of the ending/s are so needed (and deserved!) after all they’ve been through. The last pages are for you, Sam”... I weep!

Yeah, it amazes me that crusty old white dudes will wail about “cancel culture” when they clearly have never been in danger of facing a real consequence in their life, and probably never will.

Sorry, let me correct myself: *creepy guys who create a hostile work environment through verbal and physical harrassment and show up naked to force themselves into coworker’s beds (but who I’m totally sure would never perpetuate violent misogyny in their other interpersonal relationships!) and their enablers.

Why does Casey Affleck keep getting hired? Truly amazes me that as a society we’re not done with rewarding creepy rapists and their enablers.

That’s so sad. Dying at 28 is just impossibly unfair. Thank you, I’m doing okay though I can’t say I’m keen to rewatch Weekend at Bernie’s anytime soon.

Sorry about your friend. My brother died last year and seeing his corpse (which is such a horrible word) was an incredibly surreal, awful experience. Hope you’re doing okay.

I love her so much and I’m so grateful for her existence.

yeah, and you felt it lacked information? I’d be more than happy to forward you some more reading on this topic if you were genuinely interested. I just didn’t get that impression based on your first comment.

For sure, I think there are more safe-guards in place nowadays for child actors, and hopefully more parents have realised that like, they shouldn’t let their 12 year old party with the 45 year old producer at his house. Casting adults as teens is interesting as well, because it kinda opens up an entirely different

No, I don’t think so? I’m honestly not sure what the solution here might be, just that sometimes it’s really strange what we decide is acceptable. And it makes me uneasy to think about our role, as the general public, in this industry and what harm is perpetuated there for our consumption. I obviously love TV and

I don’t think you actually want to be educated on this matter at all, but just in case I’m wrong - disabled/trans/queer/non-white people have been very patiently educating people on this topic for a long time, and acting as though this is a difficult concept that needs to be explained and justified in every article is

It weirds me tf out that Sia uses this kid as her avatar when she’s been so outspoken about the damaging effects of fame and hypervisibilty, especially for women. On a deeper level, the fact that child actors are even allowed to be a thing anymore weirds me out. It’s so bizarre to me that we’ve outlawed child labour

I managed to read 71 books this year but only one on this list, The Only Good Indians which was excellent. My book of the year is probably Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake, a fungi scientist who is exactly as delightful as his name suggests. Also highly recommend Fathoms: The World in the Whale by Rebecca Giggs for

Swiss Army Man completely broke me for like, a solid month. It’s such a sweet, weird, lovely film and the soundtrack fucking rules.

okay when you said “exact same composition” I somehow didn’t think it really would be the exact same composition. this is extremely funny to me so thank you!
