I think it’s laziness / not feeling it’s necessary. Either way, I agree, torque the fucking things to the proper torque! No need for 400 ft.lb!

In my experience, anything obvious is ok.  If it’s OBVIOUSLY not running, they can find the reason pretty easily. If there is something going on intermittently... good luck.

That part got me too, but I felt the solenoid thing was more of an insult.

A specific sin: In the movie War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. There is a scene where a mechanic cannot, for the life of him, diagnose why a minivan will not start. Our hero, Mr. Cruise, suggests checking the starter solenoid... And the mechanic basically says, “ oh DOY, I didn’t think of that!” As if that wasn’t one

I think there is some validity to this.  When you are drunk, you are more likely to relax and not brace yourself.  Which is exactly how a crash test dummy reacts.

Why is it a failure?  Don’t things change?  Preferences, markets, etc.  One might consider the shift from cheap cars to expensive SUV’s as a sign that our economy is still growing and still getting stronger.

Does anyone remember the late 00's, the late 90's, early 80's and even farther back, about every 10 years? Layoffs happen with some regularity. It certainly sucks, but what should they do, keep paying employees until they file chapter 7?

Sorry, after about an hour, I’m getting out and hoofing back to the station. Arrest me for trespassing, fine, at least cells have working toilets.

That’s not true. There are rumors of jobs looking at your credit score, but it’s certainly not the normal thing. Apartments look at whether or not you have defaulted on other apartments, not credit score overall. I had a low credit score, something like 450, when I got my first apartment.

That only affects your ability to get more debt.  You can still pay cash for everything.

A one size fits all will make things a little cheaper for everyone due to economies of scale.

What is Rich enough?  At a certain point, making more money becomes a hobby, not just a source of survival.

We owned one.  Due to the rather large cowl, replacing a water pump was far easier than replacing the spark plugs.

Or 12 hours per day at 60 MPH for SIXTEEN years!  That’s nuts.

I don’t know if FORCED is the right word, it’s on its own schedule, really. It’s all about market forces. If one company does a breakthrough, it’s expected to take off, and other companies don’t want to miss out on that potential income.

Compared to the EV front though, if we powertrain engineers were designing ICE’s

Wow. Sorry, tax break / subsidy, whatever. This is a normal thing and happens all the time. It’s one of the main tools a municipality has to attract businesses. Not to mention subsidies for other reasons, like a $7,500 credit for buying a electric car? I don’t see any of that money. How’s that for crony capitalism?

Gawker media still exists.

I swear, it seems that all these sites owned by Gawker media spend all of their time trying to infuriate the left wing for page views. It’s like they are using Rush Limbaugh’s tactics that he uses on the right wing. Thank Ysmir for Ad Block.

Do you not understand how tax breaks work? NY isn’t PAYING $1.7Billion, they agreed to take in less tax money rather than take in NO tax money from Amazon.

What you’re missing is the fact that the VCT phasing is based on air charge, not BMEP. In a standard engine, the relationship between air charge and BMEP is more or less constant, so yes dual VCT phasing is necessary. However, on a variable displacement engine, you now have the ability to separate BMEP from air charge.
