The other day I glanced at the diesel price on a local gas station: petrol: 1.99, diesel 2.99 a gallon. Which such prices, the diesel Jetta has to return more than 45mpg in mixed driving in order justify its price premium, as a lot of newer petrol cars will deliver 30mpg average these days.
