I get it. And see your point 100%. But I think lego does put the effort into doing a great job with mini figures and just think we should be fair to them. This is the jaba the hut set and if there had been no Leia I'm sure plenty of collectors would have been upset. She is crucial in that part of the story line.

I'm at toys r us looking at a bad ass looking fully loathed Leia. Also Black Widow...

    Bahahah!!! That's really funny ;)

no you're not, but if you don't speak spanish it is going to look ok.

    Most definitely!

I completely see how this can be offensive to you and acknowledge that for a person who has a choice to look a certain way for a horrible short and then run back to her wealth, it's pretty messed up.
My response is to the idea that this represents latin@ people. In that, it's not offensive to me personally as a Latina.

Thank you, I appreciate this and the correction. I felt bad about making an assumption, that's not really my style, or at least I try to be as cool about it as possible when I am interacting with strangers on Jezebel. I got it from that last part about the mexican neighbor because honestly that is stuff I hear from

I totally see what you are saying... I am just tired of feeling like people always equate being Latin@ in the US with being or having been a gangsta chol@. Specifically when white people are indeed engaged in chol@ life.

i just googled her, ugh .SORRY ABOUT THAT HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

listening to oldies in a '95 honda civic, in a '45 chevy or a 2014 rubicon is just listening to oldies because they are cool! I just made it a point because the original author mentioned it as being a "latino" thing...it isn't.

By American you mean south/north America? Because I know people who are Latin@s in Latin America who call themselves Latino Americanos....so not so much an USA thing.

    EXACTLY!

And you are a responsible educator. I think it is unfair for student of color to have to take time away from their own education to teach others. They are there to learn and grow, and this detracts from their experience. Thanks for being a great educator, we need more of them!

well, I just think it is funny because it translates to "yarn of the King"....

Yah I wrote a something (probably in grey :/) about my tattoo artist and his mom who both identify with Chol@ culture and are white...

Hi Ari! I like you, but I just want to add this to the convo. Gangster culture is not Latino culture. It is Latin@ gang culture and as a Latina I am not offended when white folks dress up as Cholos, because not all of us, in fact most of us do not subscribe to this lifestyle. So I am totally whatever here with Lana

As a Latina woman, who has been at it that my whole life, I do not feel offended because cholo culture is not one that I feel represents my people. If she were wearing huipiles, and caites maybe, MAYBE I would feel upset. Chol@s is more East LA, gangster culture. Also my tattoo artist is white, his mother is white

I have 4 students applying to Fordham this year! good to know I can offer some hope...
