I don’t mean to be rude, but in the time it took you to write this comment, you could’ve read the whole article.

Don’t forget interest is front loaded. So if you trade in your car early after buying it with a low down payment, you’ve barely touched the principal. However, even with high used prices, the dealer is going to low ball on your trade in so you’re getting hit on both sides. Add in people churning cars and carrying over

This needs waaaaaay more stars. I like to buy new, because I’ve had cars in the past pretty much badly treated. But I can baby my cars 10 years. I like that 5 years no payments.

Exactly. Why put that debt load on yourself if you don’t have to? Do I want the newest, fastest thing out there now? Sure, but since I can’t afford to pay for it, I just bide my time and let depreciation do it’s thing and I can buy that car in 2-3 years and have it paid off.

You avoid it by keeping the vehicle long term and paying down the debt. People are way too fickle about auto purchases, they are a long-term commitment.

As long as they keep adding new safety features to cars that make the previous generation look like a Model T, used cars will continue to depreciate quickly.
