Don’t underestimate how comfortable a GTI can be if you’re over 6' tall. I’m only 5'8" but my 6'8" friend couldn’t believe how much legroom & headroom the car had compared to his Sentra and his wife’s Accord. Came here to say this. In the original Japanese script, Barrett has a much more stoic personality. Even as a teenager I thought Barrett’s representation was a little cringey, but as the story progressed and he had more opportunity to develop, I eventually grew to accept it as “fine”.

Agreed! 2011 GTI owner and 2006 Miata owner here. I’ve always loved Golfs & GTIs for their overall balance of fun, comfort & utility, but the sheer joy of driving an MX-5 is something that everyone has to experience for themselves.  The way the car rotates around the driver in turns is automotive nirvana.
