My mother committed suicide when I was 13 years old and she suffered, as I have too, with depression.
I am ignorant too many things, but on this issue i am a kung fu master as I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE.

yeah - I am just biased on this topic I guess.
I took no moral judgment against my mother when she committed suicide years ago, and I often thought of it as a viable option for many years - that was until I had my daughter.
and that is what rang loudest from Henry for me as that option is no longer on my table. :-)
I don't think you are reading what I have typed - the spectrum which is depression is wide — again, I don't believe Henry (and Henry verifies this if you read his article versus the AV cherry picking above) feels that just saying "buck up/don't do it" will pull all folks with depression back from the suicidal edge,…
Maybe when one has a pulpit/microphone they should on occasion leverage that position if they feel the message would empower a lost soul who could use some honesty.
the closest I could come up with a simple definition of PC is "deliberately avoiding offense".
Based on the reaction from the peanut gallery and the hits folks like Gene Simmons took on his two cents re: Robin Williams' suicide, I can come to no other conclusion that Henry decided to not be PC, and shared his two cents…
I don't know if you read Henry's entire article or are just taking the bites posted above, but it seems that Henry is very open to his lack of comprehension when it comes to the minds-turmoil's of those suffering depression.
Perhaps Henry does understand that his words might not make an impact to those that are too far…
Ha! Awesome. Tell him Edie Brickell still lives for me.
Ignorance is the lack of information, or uniformed as you stated.
Stupid is attempting to educate someone whose mother committed suicide 27 years ago with flippant statements about genetics.
Preach on! F the PC crowd who pull out the pitchforks on Henry.
Heaven forbid someone should say "don't do it" in the chance that someone might actually LISTEN. Oh, the horror if that was to occur!
Just because Scott states an opinion which differs from yours does not make him ignorant.
I agree with the majority of what Rollins said, especially the part regarding parental suicide as my mother killed herself, with no warning, when I was 13 years old.
but, I guess I am ignorant too.
Uh yeah…im sure one of the factors for her was having to deal with people like you in the world.
Yuck.
I'm waiting for him to write a similar piece on the horrible state of the Pavement outside his house…(AV staff beating each other over the head to be the first one at the keyboard to reply with disdain).
my mom committed suicide when I was 13 years old and Henry hit the nail on the head. f u, haters.
ummmmmm….yes, 1994 sex sounds great…you can find me sitting on the toilet seat in the theatre's restroom… I promise it is me and I promise I am not dead.
just please do not ask me to drink hot coffee - bring some ice.
watching Clerks in the theatre by myself, then coming back the next week with my friends in tow.
watching Mork in the dark after the end of the show - watching Popeye in the theatre as a kid and thinking "meh" - laughing my azz off at the phone booth scene in Survivors - thinking "that's one hairy Russian" when he showed up on the Hudson - knowing he was my favorite stand-up act in the 80s next to Carlin and…
Hannity's pious demeanor is usually too much for me, but I see where he is coming from regarding Colbert. Stewart does have much more comedic range, and while Colbert can be amusing, his one-trick-pony act got old about a month into his show.
I mean, it is kind of lame when you think about it: Colbert sits atop the…
Five Eight, "God Damn It Paul"…yes, it is over 20 years old - but I think the world is finally ready for Five Eight.
Yeah, it is sad —— but oh-so-fitting for a band that got so much out of songs that were short in length.
And yet Edie Brickell still lives! (cue Rollins hurling himself into a pile of broken glass and razor blades).
