Actually you're right about the dark part. When I was a kid I always thought a crossover with Knight Rider would be awesome but now that I think about it, the tones were really different.

Airwolf was goofy fun but still had characters worth caring about. In my memory it had kind of a MacGyver feel to it. Once it lost it's original cast it was unwatchable.

Oddly enough I loved the film for all the reasons this reviewer didn't. I actually liked the fact that it reminded me of The X Files.

I remember sitting in the theater watching The Rock, getting to the mine cart sequence and for half a nanosecond regaining the ability to engage in rational thought thinking "wait, what?!?" but honestly at that point I had been completely hypnotized the lunatic fun of this movie.
