Friend of the family had a family member play in the NFL in the late 70s. It was horrifying. Some teams just wanted max performance out of the players regardless of their long term well being. Comment made on surgery decision:

Texas seditionists and racists have been shooting guns on NYE since forever, just like idiots in every state in the Union. Night riders in overalls, polo shirts and uniforms have been using NYE, Devil’s Night, sports championships and local traditions to joyride settle scores and intimidate people by shooting and d…
It’s a given to be upset that she was shot, who the hell isn’t? It’s possible to be upset about both. You’re the only one saying anything about “ONLY” being upset about the response. The police should respond immediately to gather any evidence that could be compromised, speak to potential witnesses who may not hang…
You new writers need to police these comments and stop ungreying every colonizer that appears!
the whole thing seems like a petty, passive-aggressive “fuck you” to Floyd, his family, and everyone else who has ever argued for defunding the police (or just reining them in a little so they’re not killing unarmed black people all the time). Pretty standard response for an American police union.
Is it normal for police departments to blast the address like that? In a tweet?
There’s probably a perfectly reasonable reason for the four hour delay. Maybe it took the police so long to respond because they had to go home and change out of their robes?
Adams is a classic case of not all skinfolk is kinfolk. I worked for a decade in New York as a photographer for politicians, and I must say that Adams’ ascent is quite curious, as none of my former clients there would touch him with a ten foot pole in years past. Big smile, even bigger skeletons, one client explained.…
I hate this guy so much. He’s currently forcing me to commute for hours everyday so that I can sit in an office and have meetings over Zoom.
First act was literally to force the teachers back into schools when they’re understaffed and while omicron is blowing up. Gonna get a lot more people sick.
I’m from New York and we’ve elected yet another person who talked big but is now revealing themselves to be a moron.
Exactly. Assholes like him are incapable of handling even minor inconvenience, and just assume all the negative effects will happen to someone else. I hope he gets long COVID, I really do.
And yet, when they say we must learn to live with covid it doesn’t appear that any of these things are what they’re talking about. They seem to want to go back to “normal” (which was fucking shitty) which means doing fuck all about this damn disease.
It is leadership like this that will keep us in the pandemic.
Learning to live with it means regular vaccination boosters, permanent masking up, reduced capacities in indoor spaces, remote working, and social distancing. Those are the things we need to learn to live with for COVID, learning to live with it doesn’t mean saying fuck it and surrendering to the virus’s effects of…
To talk about COVID, in only economic terms. Such an asshole move. We lost 11 trillion dollars. Not a mention of death, of families shattered, nothing. Just money. I would glad spend another 11 trillion (which yes, we absolutely do have because, and here is the thing MONEY ISN’T Real!) to prevent even a single death. …
I lived the vast majority of my life in NYC. It’s my home and will always be a part of me. But I’m glad I don’t live there anymore and dumbfuckery like this is why. Tackle bureaucracy? Police brutality? Skyrocketing rent and homelessness? Nah! Let’s make sure rich af motherfuckers can keep staying open and keep gettin…
Mayor Adams is a COP who happens to be black. Every obstacle to him is to be reflexively suppressed with aggressive force.
They need to adopt the same policy as for murder. There’s no statute of limitations on murder. Records should be retained. There’s no particular benefit to the general public for these records to be destroyed. It’s more possible to do this now with electronic records, allowing easier access to them.
A thousand voices are harder to ignore than one.
