For those of us who already have a solar/battery system, this would be a great way to expand storage.  Our current LG battery is 10kwh, & peters out just before the sun rises on a full charge.  Having 4 times the storage available to keep from drawing from the grid while the sun rises far enough to hit our 12kw of

My Dad raced the Winnipeg to St. Paul Winter Carnival race three years in a row in the early 70's, on an Arctic Cat 440... the first year they had to ride their machines in -45F five miles just to get to the starting line. He only finished one year, a ~500 mile journey. The last year he had a fuel mishap & burned his

Arctic Cat was still futzing with Wankel rotaries when my dad worked for them in the early 70's... we found one at a snowmobile salvage in N. MN.  I’d love to get my hands on one now.

Yep. I’m expecting VW to come out hitting hard... I’m glad every new image of the upcoming scout is a non-official rendering. All the Rivian-esque examples I’ve seen on news articles look pretty milquetoast.

When we moved from the Twin Cities to N. California, we had “new car” money to spend on an emissions compliant vehicle, as we didn’t know if our two aged Volvo’s would pass & didn’t want to try to deal with that mess just after moving. We gave the 99 V70XC to our realtor & sold my 98 V70 with a T5R swap to my brother.

3 different companies are ramping up to start production from the Salton Sea in 2027, which has been described as the “Saudi Arabia” of lithium. IIRC all three are competing to have the most environmentally friendly method.

I’d imagine it’s a lot more difficult to drag a 9000+ lb. wad of bricked hummer up a dry wash & 20km back to the trailhead.

Three teslas in our neighborhood have magically turned into Rivian pickups over the last month and a half... and one into an Ioniq 5.  Those trucks look great.  I’d imagined something a lot bigger in person for some reason.  Downright reasonable sized next to my Scout 800.

I’d drive that in town.

PG&E has been burying powerlines all summer around us in Sonoma County... we haven’t had a power outage yet, probably due to the solar/battery system CA paid us 5 figures to install a couple years ago. If you walk around our neighborhood, most homes that have a BEV are able to charge them essentially for free from

CA’s Salton Sea has enough lithium to supply 40% of the worlds needs right now, it just needs an efficient extraction method...

Not a car, but a buddy wanted me to look over a couple issues with his 65 Ural.

It’s my understanding hagerty limits the mileage you can drive on classics... anyone care to correct me?

I’ve had to use them twice in the North Bay area... around an hour each time after a single phone call.  We’ve since switched to our insurance co’s roadside assistance & haven’t had occasion to use it yet.

Those “Four Pint Lunches” hit even harder in the future...

An entirely electric British car?

I got my wish... We’ll drive my 68 Scout 800 to the dealership to pick out our first BEV in ‘26 hopefully.

How’bout you report on the head of VW-US being appointed leader of the upcoming Scout brand?

Isn’t Alabama one of those ass-backward states that flat-out refuses to raise the legal marrying age as well?

My rig weighs ~3200 lbs with a 570lb 4 cylinder weighing down the front... I won’t ever need more than this.
