After the second major accident, I would give up on driving and just rely on public transit.

Someone needs to do a cost/benefit analysis on expected maintenance costs vs. payments on a newer, lower mileage option. This might be one of those cases where you spend more per year keeping it going than you would in payments on a nicer one.
