Unfortunately these women are still subject to the law and defamation of character lawsuits. No one wants to have to pay their rapist and have their names drug thru the mud by public opinion.

Given how well that’s worked out for a lot of powerful and not-so-powerful women, I don’t blame her. I really wish we didn’t put additional burdens on sexual assault victims. If they want to go through the wringer to try to get justice—such as it is—then they should, and I applaud their strength. If they don’t want

After the Kesha/Dr. Luke lawsuits, there is zero chance of that happening any time soon. Those made it 100% clear how much you have to lose by naming your abuser.

Flippancy of the crowd aside, as someone with an immunocompromised organ-transplant recipient parent who understands at least a couple of the various nuances surrounding said circumstance, this is actually pretty significant and alarming news for that population. Thank you for covering this.

Shockingly and depressingly related, check out on YouTube 1940's/50's PSA’s on how women should look and behave. Keep that in mind when the troglodytes grunt about “the good old days”

I worked at a substance abuse rehab facility for teens in West Virginia and now I’m in rural South Carolina. The contempt that people in the rest of the country have for my neighbors is disgusting. Hell, I’ve read comments on these sites about how we deserve hurricanes and other natural disasters because of the amount

It’s weird how you’re only hung up on the racial aspect when RRF highlighted several groups that they would be serving during the priority period.

That word clearly doesn't mean what you think it means.

That’s all common behavior for a child who’s being abused - defending the abuser, acting in a hypersexual way if that’s what the abuser expects, lashing out at anyone who questions the abusive relationship.

But how much blame can you lay at the feet of a person who cannot legally consent to getting their ears pierced or to smoke cigarettes because they are not fully functioning beings?

There people are awful and I don’t support what they did. I'm not defending them but it is tremendously difficult to rehome dogs with any bite history. Even if the bite was provoked.

A child died. What the fuck is wrong with you? Take a really really long look in the mirror.

You said “similar” so I think that’s totally fair.

I take strong exception to the author’s lumping HEB in with these “affluent,” exclusionary grocery chains.
HEB’s stores, while certainly clean, well laid out and stocked with a variety of quality merchandise, is hardly exclusive or overpriced. The HEB stores in my city frequently undercut even Wal-Mart’s prices, and

“Black AND DISABLED Man”

Y’all are going to do right by us and stop erasing our disabilities one day.

There are huge grey areas. The medical field is on such. Right now the drug manufacturers can’t make enough of the vaccines to supply everyone who is asking for it — yet they are also petitioning Congress to preserve their patents so no other country can make a vaccine that will save lives.

All I can say is, dude, Jean-Paul Marat tried doing his work in his bathtub for medical reasons too, and look how that ended up.

(I would have said “uncontroversial” before this conversation,)

Presumably spoken like someone who didn’t spend middle school hearing kids say “Thank you come again” every time you walked by them.

I think you’re totally correct- no, wait, I know you’re totally correct. I don’t think there’s any issue with a bunch of white American writers creating a character purely based on skin-deep stereotypes, because Apu is beloved in his community. It’s like that Ashton Kutcher popchips ad, there’s nothing wrong with his
