Because the word sex makes people squeamish in a way gender does not. Half the people that have thrown gender reveal parties would not have done it if the event was called a sex reveal party. Forget calling it what it really is, a genitalia reveal party.

Ahhh yes conservatives say that gender must be based on science...and then completely ignore the science on gender (and sex) in favor of religion and their feelings on it. 

I’ll say it: it’s rude to speak anything but the lingua franca in public, in any country, outside of obvious tourist areas.

What’s rude is interjecting yourself into the conversation of a group of people eating a meal at a restaurant that has nothing to do with you and making a profane, racist spectacle of yourself. But that's just me.
