I guess it's cold if you consider afternoon highs in the mid-40s and sunshine to be cold. It's a far cry from what the rest of the country is experiencing!

What about Flickr and Tumblr?
I think it's more about safety. If you're out jogging or even walking and you've got noise cancelling headphones on, you may end up in trouble. But for those who do want in-ear headphones (rather than the default EarPods), Apple does make a nice pair that retails for around $90 with great audio quality. Just don't use…
"For example, it would make life difficult, if not impossible, in much of the tropics,"
Re. Starship Troopers
This seems like a recap of 2013 trends. Haven't beards been going strong for a couple years now? Also, lens flare and Instagrammy food shots?
I don't know why everyone had such a huge problem with Cameron's use of "unobtainium" - a real term, by the way. I could totally see engineering geeks of the future giving that name to some newly discovered, ultra-valuable resource.
Mombook is adding autoplay video ads? My mom is gonna hate that! (And so will moms everywhere.)
Sorry to hear about your health problems. A few points though:
This trailer actually struck me as kind of annoying. So much wobbly camera work and it's hard to tell what's going on.
Most children growing up in developed countries had only a very limited exposure to the kinds of pathogens that help adjust immune systems at an early age. Exposure to things like parasites in drinking water and soil seems to teach our immune systems, at a young age, what to pay attention to and what can be safely…
Another, more charitable way of framing that is to say that people mistrust things that are relatively new. GMOs, for example, weren't widely available until the mid-90s. People may also oppose GM crops for reasons that have nothing to do with health (e.g. Vandana Shiva and the movement against monoculture).
That's great that you were able to isolate the foods that were causing you problems. Are you able to cheat once in a while without negative effects?
I don't agree that people mistrust real science. Rather, they're too quick to trust anything whatsoever that presents itself as science.
They're delicious but largely unnecessary. I just eat them on weekends since it's easier to be disciplined during the week.
"Helps make your immune system more wonky and overactive!"
The gluten-free craze is symptomatic of something larger than our collective desire to lose weight. It's a sign that a vast number of people in modern society are dealing with digestive health problems, many of them "mysterious." It's my gut feeling (har) that this is all related to the massive increases in asthma and…
Academic disciplines like History (i.e., those that are currently out of favour) teach skills that are incredibly important in any advanced society. Getting rid of them only means that we've become more crass. Those skills include critical thinking, the ability to communicate ideas effectively, the ability to form and…
Prediction: the ending of this movie is going to drag on wayyyy too long, and you will be begging and pleading with the volcano god to kill everyone in the movie (and maybe everyone in the theatre) and just end the misery. The last hour of the movie will be filled with interminable slow motion shots of people looking…
San Francisco's startup techies are responsible for all the the medical technology used in hospitals?
