Dammit, I thought this was finally our chance to get rid of Kathy Griffin. We’d say it’s a reality show, a 24/7 broadcast from space, but not actually activate the transmitter... Also put Jenny McCarthy in there, and Bieber, some Kardashians... I had it all planned out.

Yeah, except I doubt Gervais needed to plan something with Shandling in advance (“Hey, let’s make this extra-awkward...”) if his goal was awkwardness. Of the three Gervais-meets-his-idols sessions, the one with Larry David arguably went most smoothly, because Christopher Guest is an oddball interviewee too, in a

I hope enough people star this, to make it the top comment ahead of that stupid fucking comment whining about how much money Shandling and Apatow made.

Larry Sanders Show, The Complete Series is a big chunk of my very small DVD collection, and I’m very glad to have it. I’m more eager to see this documentary than any film in years.

Opening titles: I enjoyed the Facebook logo billboard turning into mock-Russian. There’s people crossing a bridge between Uber and Lyft, and green things falling from the Uber building... Not sure what that is.

If the “casual encounters” ads all migrate to that section, and become 100% innuendo, I am totally looking forward to that. (Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more!)

CL personals are still up at the moment, mostly people who seem to be in search of cock. Uh... or so I’m told.

Check out Norm Macdonald Live for some episodes with close-up shots so ludicrous, you’d think they must be done intentionally as a joke.

At least 10 minutes.

I was about to re-watch Somnambulist, the episode of Angel he guest-starred on; does that help?

Thanks, yeah I had looked her up for, uh... research purposes.

Other sauces besides the cheese would be good, but yeah, I think the Bell is putting many fast-food fries to shame. On that list of top chains, I’m most alarmed/repelled by Subway, considering that even the shittiest grocery store deli can make a better tasting sandwich.

I believe that lovely young actress’ name is Julia Sarah Stone — right?

Yeah, American Beauty is still deserving of some praise, it seems to me. It isn’t the ensemble piece that The Ice Storm is (AB is all about Lester’s perspective, and to a lesser extent his daughter’s - I love Thora Birch in that), and each film’s darkness has a very different tone. But how freakin’ great was Chris

I crushed on Christina Ricci too, way back then, and this was surely one of the best films she got the chance to do. A lovely and fine young actress, it’s too bad her career went on a bit bizarrely after that. This whole cast was great, with great roles especially for Kline and Weaver.

Last week’s review mentioned that Good Girls is meant ultimately to lean more toward drama than comedy, but the pacing and dialogue mostly feels comedic to me. Not a quick, slapsticky type, but one with an hour of breathing room. Next week promises wacky Canadian-border hijinks! Fine with me, I think the leading

No, I listed ALL the 21st-century compilations of varied interviews on comedy that I am aware of (because I’m more familiar with that genre than with memoirs), in case anyone is interested in related stuff to read; if there were any prepared by women, I would have listed them too. And guess what? The collection of

A few interesting books of interviews, for those interested in comedy writers: Marc Maron’s Waiting for the Punch (taken from the WTF podcast) came out in 2017; Judd Apatow’s Sick in the Head from 2015 (interviews he did with comedians over many years, starting way back in his teens); two books by Mike Sacks, And

Oh sure — she’s already a gorgeous, royal, totally unattainable, icy-hot smokeshow, and now you tell me she’s just into girls. #FML

I wonder if Frances McDormand will show up looking like a crazy cat lady this time. Seriously though, a field of nominees is pretty awesome when the always-excellent Streep doesn’t stand out among them. Saoirse Ronan may need to use her magical eyes like Hypnotoad on the academy, to get an edge.
