Betting on a guy who made two critically praised, award-winning shows in succession is not an unusual tactic. Life's Too Short showed that the third time is not the charm. His movies have been… not too bad? And then came Derek. (insert poop emoji here)

I think his only project that was an honest-to-god hit in the U.S. was our version of The Office, and other than a cameo, Gervais' involvement was primarily counting his bags of cash.

His inability to stop breaking would have completely sunk The Office and Extras, or gotten him replaced, if he weren't the co-creator and star. I don't know how on earth they managed to get successful takes of any scene, but they did, because those shows were both awesome. (I take every opportunity to get new people

Hey, anybody catch Ralph Ineson (Finchy, also Dagmer on GOT, and lots of other stuff) as a fisherman in the ridiculous Sherlock finale? I really hope he's the one who got to throw Timmy down the well.

They considered using the category "First World Problems", but realized that's way too easy for Jeopardy contestants.

What is Aleppo?

And wasted cash to buy the O. And the A.

Anyone catch Ralph Ineson as the fisherman? I really hope it was Finchy who threw Timmy down the well.

To be fair, a lot of Americans also enjoy the really good BBC shows. But I agree with your main point, the actors are the highlight. Cumberbatch and Freeman are well deserving of their movie star status.

DAMN YOU 2017, AGGHGGGHHHHHGH WORST YEAR EVER

Fifteen pounds? What, with arms like Popeye?

I just hope that it's more satisfying than The Night Manager. I haven't read the novel, so can only speak of the TV adaptation as a work in itself, but I thought it featured fine lead performances rather wasted in a dashing, pretty, but ultimately disappointing story. (Also ridiculously implausible, but in the

Dr Akopian's world-class eyeroll deserves a gif, and her collapse after the almost-breakthrough had me in stitches.

I'm pretty liberal in most ways, but I think I'd be a lot more likely to respect conservative leaders if they ever bore the slightest resemblance to Hank Hill, I tell you what. He was more than just the world's squarest man with honesty and common sense to spare, he also grew and learned, and so did the other

I would say that CEG's cringe humor is nowhere near as cringey as, say, The Office (UK), or many moments of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Woohoo! The CW has nothing else to dump in the Friday deathslot, so CEG survives! And the renewal comes on the morning of the Golden Globes, not even waiting to see if Rachel gets another win. The power of Netflix is nowhere clearer.

Oh, that video? Yeah… let's just say, of its nearly 5 million views, I contributed my share.

Yes, but Rachel often remarks in interviews that she spent her youth listening obsessively, and almost exclusively, to musical theater albums.

Sure, a bit of Armie Hammer too. Those hunky types all have that same haircut for at least one phase or another, it's hard to distinguish.

Yay for the dramatic solo number interrupted by commercial! That was fantastic. Poor Gary.
