That sounds like John Howard Davies' awful commentary track for the first series of Fawlty Towers.

I saw Eddie Muller give a live intro once (for Nightfall, I think), having no idea who he was, and I still quote his insights on noir to this day.

I don't even own a Blu-ray player, but I bought the BD of Playtime when it came out.  Sounds like a good choice …

So, you guys realize that Ben Schwartz is a writer for the Oscars?  He was nominated for Emmys in 2009 and 2012, and won an Emmy for the lyrics to Hugh Jackman's opening number (co-written with, among others, Dan Harmon!).

Based on the credits, MacFarlane brought his own writers as well.  They scrolled by quickly, but I recognized a bunch of names from Family Guy.

@avclub-f1cabca05a9a64dd5900cf947a6792ca:disqus : You sure you're not thinking of Natalie Portman?

I hate to sound like a broken record, but … does anyone have these complaints about The Vampire Diaries?

It was a plot hole that Hardy, seeing the (presumably stripped) SWAT guys, didn't radio in a message about what he'd seen and warning that the SWAT team might be compromised.

Sadly, that part is not factually accurate.

It was weird that he seemed to imply that knowing what she was a part of would hurt her career, but being an errand girl for a serial killer wouldn't.  (Nor does it make any sense for her to demand that knowledge.  Having plausible deniability is the only thing that could possibly stop her from getting disbarred (and

Not necessarily.  Maybe I'm giving the show too much credit, but there was an unrelated conversation — between Charlie and Claire — that established that different cells didn't know about each other (e.g., Emma/Denise didn't know about Charlie).  So the blonde woman may have tried to kill Mike without knowing his role.

Not just Wu-Tang is for the children.

It's a bit complicated, but Anne of Avonlea (later retitled Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel) was the second of two Canadian TV movies based on the Anne Shirley books made by the same folks who later made the Canadian Road to Avonlea TV series.  While the movies were about Anne, the series actually focused on a

It also features Matthau sleeping with Jack Lemmon's wife, making the subtext of their relationship visible.

The best example?  Really?  You're not gonna go with John Huston or Jeff Bridges or Vanessa Redgrave?

I'm curious: Did people noting that during the MacFarlane/Chenowith closing number, the lyrics called Anne Hathaway "a … dorable" while leading us to expect a rhyme with "Hunt"?  Isn't that basically the same joke?

Why on earth should a newspaper apologize for an op-ed??  There's a mass disclaimer on the op-ed page saying that opinions expressed are not those of the paper.

Wait … what was so outrageous about MacFarlane's joke?  If I remember correctly, he said that in 16 years she would be too old for Clooney.  In other words, Clooney only dates super-young (but not pedo-young) chicks.  Of course, Clooney's current girlfriend is much older than 25, but it's a joke, not meant to be taken
