Yeah, Patterson doesn't really write his books.  And unlike a lot of best-selling "authors," he openly admits that and gives official credit to his co-authors.

I think the King of the Hill episode, while brilliant, was more a spoof of cults in general.  (I suspect a lot of TV shows in those days got funding to do anti-cult social modeling.) The Simpsons, on the other hand, directly targeted Scientology, which is interesting because the voice of Bart is a member.

I wrote a 15-page paper for my James Bond class in college on the similarities between Bond and XXX.  The parallels are actually really elegant and thought-through.  It went far beyond "tuxedos are lame."
