Jim Henson's Creature Shop has a long history of recycling puppet designs, if not the puppets themselves. The Gryphon from Dreamchild appears in the opening credits for The Jim Henson Hour, the cast of Muppets Tonight guest starred on an episode of The Cosby Show, and the Keedva from last week's "Home on the Remains"

After all those ominous shots (in early episodes) of the mosaic with a picture of a dragon, I expected a real dragon to show up in the finale. False advertising!

Llama - the goat who hangs out in the background

This reminds me of an old cartoon in which Droopy was an insurance salesman. There was another character who was constantly being almost-killed, by cars or by falling objects, and it scared him into wanting to buy life insurance, at which point Droopy would appear with the proper paperwork. Then he would have second

Burger King is currently promoting the 3-D version in their Kids Meals for some reason. I was wondering about that.

Last weekend, my DVD recorder died. It had a built-in digital tuner, so I could use it like a VCR. It's a discontinued model, and apparently very few DVD recorders are made with built-in tuners anymore. So when I replace the recorder, I'll probably need to buy a digital converter box.

Thursday night was a pleasant surprise, as my local PBS station aired the Dirk Gently pilot. I guess they will be running all the episodes. (So, like, four of them.) I'd been meaning to seek these out on the intertubes, but now I can watch them legally.

I was wondering if the rest of 666 Park Avenue would ever air. And now it's paired with Zero Hour! I am irrationally excited about this.

…a nickel?

A NICKEL?!

With today being Father's Day, I wish I could say my dad was my pop culture mentor, but he was working all the time and didn't have much time for pop culture. Although he did watch PBS a lot, so I did too. I can thank him for introducing me to Wild Kingdom, Cosmos, and Nova, and indirectly for Doctor Who and Monty

My favorite stand-up comic is going to be on TV every week? Awesome! I'd better stock up on blank VHS tapes for The Paula Poundstone Show!

Do they still make Wonka's "Oompas"? Bigger than Skittles, squarish instead of round, more realistic fruit flavors, and yes, the green ones are apple. I love those.

Note: Don't ever do that with your real head on a real piano.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I've been working on creature puppets for the film, on and off for a few years now. But I'm hitting my midlife crisis, and I need to start getting a social life. Then, once I have a new batch of friends, I can bully them into helping me with my film! …That's how it works, right?
