Yeah, no shit, lol (a popular t-shirt I see at powwows says "I'm part European but can't prove it". Being on the rolls helps. If people say they are Cherokee I ask which roll their relative was on. That usually gets a blank stare.

As someone of American Indian descent (and a roll-member of the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band), gotta point out that Tonto isn't supposed to be Cherokee (wrong part of the country), he's supposed to be Choctaw. Kind of a pet peeve of ours (non-NDN's thinking we're all the same) but we just joke about it. Sample:
