Yes she did.  Being the only man in the theater when I saw it, I felt it my duty to cheer as everyone around me had cheered in the opening dance scene.  It went as well as you'd expect.

I really enjoyed the pilot.  I'm interested to see the next two episodes to color this review in a little more.  I agree the characters aren't touched on but noticed nothing negative about the 'island dame' aside from some goodwill from dollhouse (she was half of the best part of Dollhouse).

I didn't think the 'gag' with Fawn was about her banging a black guy but rather her screaming stop in what sounded like pain.  Still a bit derivative but not really a racially based joke.

My understanding while watching this was that he was resigned to just die and was sick of running.  He fought to 'go down swinging'.  I suppose when he won he figured 'fuck it, let's walk around with my niece'.

I really didn't like that Mackenzie kid's song.  I was surprised that any judges turned around.  Too all over the place on an already kind of annoying song.

I've usually found him to be quite good such as when he was dealing with his guilt over Donna's death and such but man…that was awful.  Was it the last shot of the day or something?
