Kudos for a Vase de Noces reference. I wish the visual storytelling in that movie would have been as accomplished as the sound design. Then we might actually have a twisted little masterpiece of pig fucking movies.

Yeah, it's not a very good idea to start off your subtle drama with a scene of Susan Sarandon rubbing lemon all over her bare breasts and expect us to be able to concentrate on anything following that. Some of us get very aroused by Susan Sarandon doing such things.
Probably my favorite Dylan release as well and at the very least it contains my favorite song of his which is Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. Some would say odd choice but I can't get over how catchy and perfect the trucking rhythm is coupled with the warm sound of the organ and Dylan spinning the yarn, not to…
"This place is dead anyway" from Swingers is a very convenient phrase every time me and my friends switch locations.
You can basically make out every scene from the Before Midnight one. Pretty cool, Internet.
I haven't seen Devil's Backbone so I don't know what this is about but my friend Carrie would like to have a word with you.
"I’m, as a director, always, you know, I’m looking for detailed work. And they present me detailed work like lyrics, they already have the music, and I say ‘Okay, let’s just analyze what we can do.’"
Matt Dillon is surprisingly effective as Chinaski and the film captures Bukowski's laconic humor fairly well but I wouldn't say the film is particularly great. I'd argue that Tales of Ordinary Madness is the best film adaptation of his material. Ben Gazzara plays the lead and the movie captures the balance of sadness…
On a somewhat related tangent, does Philadelphia hold up? I watched it something like 10 years ago and I don't think any movie ending has made me cry as much. I'm wondering if some of that was due to my general emotional state at the time.
On a positive note, I did like the scene of Sloan dressing down Bree on live air. Its classic Sorkin in his comfort zone even if it is just thinly veiled sermoning. At least the rhythm of the dialogue can be enjoyable. But when he tries to tug at your heartstrings, dear God. I laughed out loud at the ending montage.…
Well I don't know about you guys but I thought this was the funniest Newsroom episode in a while! Also, I kinda wish the third season happened in a vacuum. They finally managed to make Maggie into a compelling character but it makes little sense with what came before.
OH MOVE ON, LYNCH. Yeesh.
I made peace back in 2012 with the fact that Old Ideas was probably going to be his last album and it would'nt have been a bad note to go out on. But I tell you, I got really excited at this news. God bless this man.
I hate-watched the last two seasons of L.A. Ink. It's a horrible show.
My second favorite Bresson movie after the masterpiece that is A Man Escaped. Say what you will, old Rob, but these really are some great suspense movies.
In the beginning of Before Sunset Jesse states his idea for his next book which I always thought sounded really stupid and/or pretentious. And I've only seen Before Midnight once but wasn't there a similar scene where he talks about his next book to his author friends? I have a recollection of that idea sounding…
I love how the back half of this movie is basically the main character struggling to reach the climax of the movie. A bunch of fucked up shit keeps happening and every once a while there's a cut to Dennis Hopper fumbling along alone in the dark with a chainsaw and shouting inanities. That is, if you consider Hopper to…
You know, Ozymandias isn't even the best episode of Breaking Bad… Top ten definitely, maybe even top five. To me Breaking Bad at its best was always about tension and release. Five years of shit culminating in one episode with little to no breathing room doesn't make it the best for me.
I play acoustic one-man-punk and have covered Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914) at three gigs this year.
I kinda liked that movie.
