Right on, that DIIV record is fantastic. easily in my top 5. And I forgot all about Swing Lo Magellan which I think will age far better than many of the other critically acclaimed records of the year (see: Grimes, etc)

With all the free music services and a workplace that allows for radio-play it's actually extremely easy to listen to that many albums. I mean just a new album one day per week nets you 50+.

After Seek Magic I put Memory Tapes on my "I will buy anything this dude puts out" list. Player Piano was such a letdown I burned the list, buried the ashes in the ground and salted the earth. I honestly have no idea what to expect from this guy.

What helped for me was going somewhere w/o internet or even basic cable. When my wife and in-laws and I would go to VT for skiing, the downtime was filled with much bourbon and 80pg chunks of Infinite Jest. With a story that rich with details and plot-points that recur/come back/change in signifcance and with my…

To be honest, I was reading like 10 pages per day. Was at it since September. Such a loose, wobbly plot doesn't really require the attention of, say, several-hour-sized chunks of uninterrupted reading. I really enjoyed DHALGREN for the most part. It was certainly like nothing else I've ever read.

Just finished Delaney's DHALGREN. Looking forward to reading a book that is not 800 pages long, and to a lesser extent, one that isn't supersaturated in postapocalyptic gangbangs. TO A LESSER EXTENT.

SAGA is far an away my favorite title of the year. MANHATTAN PROJECTS might be #2. I can't recall just when ANIMAL MAN started, but the Foreman stuff, if that was this year, would be in the running.

There was some joke in Bill Cosby's HBO special I saw when I was a kid that I can't exactly recall. Something about Bill and his wife approaching the idea of having children. He says something like "We thought we were ready. We planned it. We got in the back seat of the car… and discussed it."
