Yes, everyone seems to assume that Simon prevented the creation of the Lich, but I had interpreted his stopping the bomb as evidence that the Lich wasn't around to stop him from doing so. I think they had some kind of showdown.

I liked the detail that the Lich seemed to zoom into the same space where Billy's "hole" had been before Finn and Jake helped him regrow his heart.
