I think you misunderstood the line he crossed when he said that the rape was liberating. He was not saying, "I think it would be liberating to witness the rape of my entire family." He was saying, "In case you missed it, I'm being a ridiculous asshole."

I hate the idea that for entertainment to be kid friendly it needs to be simple. Kids aren't idiots and if my 9 year old who has ADHD can sit through a Doctor Who episode and not get confused by it, I'm pretty sure it's kid friendly.
