I'm with you too, SouthofHeaven. I stated something like this in an earlier comment, but I don't think I said it strongly enough. I've seen thousands of movies over the years, but there's only been a couple dozen that have left a really strong impression on me and Tron was one of those. Maybe it was the unique…
I loved Tron when it came out. I don't remember anyone being particularly disappointed with it, other than older people who didn't know what video games were.
The movie's getting ok reviews generally: Ebert=75/100; Entertainment Weekly=75; Village Voice=70; Variety=60; Chicago Tribune=50; New York Magazine=40.
always loved the opening to the original show
If you're too young to have seen the original "Sneak Previews" on WTTW, do yourself a favor and watch this clip which contains the fantastic opening credits and a little bit of S&E introducing Blade Runner:
I want you on TV, Rabin. I've been saying since about 1996 or 97 that you and Phipps should be the next Siskel and Ebert. You two are the only ones with any brains reviewing movies nowadays.
Bullshit, ricin beans. The issue was always state's rights. If Thomas Jefferson had been alive during the Civil War, he would have fought for the South. All of his anti-Federalist writings along with his creation of the state's rights-oriented Democratic-Republican Party indicate this.
Nubians are East Africans with dark skin. They are no more related to the Black people of West Africa (the typical Blacks of the U.S.) than the dark skinned people of India are. Simply having large amounts of melanin in their skin does not make them related.
Stallone … wins this time?
"…in Stallone's words, the 'movie about fake president who was put there by foreign enemies to destroy America.' Leaving aside that this is NOT the plot of The Manchurian Candidate…"

If you add to "full of unable-to-retire senior citizens who die clutching their desks" the line "and tens of millions of Mexican migrants who take up all the low end jobs because they're willing to work for anything, off the books, and employers don't even have to pay taxes on them, nor social security taxes nor…

big medals
Your imagery of Obama handing out medals to tax rebels was surely inspired by one of the nation's biggest actual criminals, Warren Buffet, getting the Medal of Freedom recently. Of course, Buffet isn't against taxes — he can't get enough of them! Why would he be against taxes when the government is…

Having a television channel that actually taught people things — real things like science or factual history — is a good idea, and that's what PBS was in it's earliest incarnation. Sadly, PBS has degenerated into being a liberal mouthpiece paid for by tax dollars (and by leftists who give it money because they…
Blunt is 5'7". Somehow I'm not worried about the upcoming shit kicking.
Scarlett Johansson is
the first host in a long time to actively annoy me. While the material on the show was mediocre, her presence took it down a few notches. The only redeeming quality was that her good looks are starting to fade a bit earlier than usual for a starlet so that we can expect to see less of her — and…
A complete, quick overview of foreign holders of US debt is at http://www.ustreas.gov/tic/… . We have to pay $868.4 billion to China directly and perhaps $100-200 billion indirectly to China through proxy purchases via Britain and Caribbean banks.
sorry, but Rabin raised a pet peeve of mine…
"Roddenberry's liberal humanist leanings colored Star Trek to an almost embarrassing extent; like Rod Serling, he just barely bothered to Trojan-horse his liberal sermonizing into science-fiction conceits."
