And I'm now reminded of a semi-obscure little indie movie that Bill Paxton did called Travellers. I can't say how good it is, but I liked it quite a bit before it slipped from memory.

I want that header pic on coffee mugs I can buy by bulk and give as prezzies during holidays (any holiday, Holli, Labor Day, Sukkot, you name it), because it is life.

Ooooh. I thought it was a shark fin soup reference, but then again, it's my lunchtime.

Is the shark's name Meg Ono?

What movie has a ghost BJ scene?

I'll look for Our Dancing Daughters - sounds fun.

No, but it sounds like I should. And I have a hard time thinking of Warren William looking jovial. Sneering and disdainful - easy; jovial - what, really?

Petherbridge is from the 80s. Carmichael is from the 70s. I'm rather partial to the Petherbridge version, although having read the books after watching the series, the actor is plainly too old for the character. Walter is perfect as Vane, though, especially in Gaudy Night.

You should see The Scarlet Pimpernel. Percy is basically Wimsey in featherheaded fop mode. It also has Merle Oberon, so, bonus.

Co-signed.

I admit that I haven't seen most of the Crawford movies mentioned above, but as someone who mostly knew her from The Women and Mildred Pierce, I'd like to recommend something from Joan's ingenue days: The Unknown. Lon Chaney starring in a Tod Browning movie, so you know it's freakish and odd. Joan is the love interest

We must agree to disagree. I love him as the thoroughly disagreeable Prof. Higgins in Pygmalion and I adore him as The Scarlet Pimpernel.

You are NOT the only one. He would have been a perfect Wimsey.

The books are, but the 1941 movie is not, so the less these takes look like Judy Garland and crew, the better, which strangely buttresses the argument for gritty, oddball reboots.

Oh, I do that, too. And nowadays, they don't even look confused when I say, "No beans, no rice, side of rice & beans". But it's nice not to have to ask. It's even nicer when they offer 'pura carne' options.

I thought San Diego cuisine was defined by fish tacos. Oh well.

A no-rice burrito in San Francisco??? WHERE?

What few there are.

Pffft. Germany has spy dolls! Spy dolls!
