I could be wrong, because it's been a very long time since I've watched any of the show, even in reruns, but my impression was that Hawkeye and Trapper had absolutely no respect for Burns in or out of the operating theatre because, on top of everything else, he was a lousy, sloppy, only-semi-competent surgeon.
