But curiously, "Heard It On The X" really is about a radio station.

How 'bout the scene in 'Red River' where Jon Derek and Monty Clift are comparing pistols?

Wonder what the professor would've made out of "A Movable Feast"?

Paul Lynde, Charles Nelson Reilly, Alan Sues…who'm I forgetting here in the great pantheon of funny-because-they're-gay-in-the-age-shortly-before-you-could-just-say-you're-gay?

So what word do you propose should have been used there?

I was once told by an activist type who I felt could probably find racism in a petri dish that "Wrinkle In Time" is really racist. I suspected otherwise, but I haven't read the book since I was a kid.

You know another song that isn't about ass sex at all as far as I know but lots of people think it is? "Brown Eyed Girl."

My fundamentalist next door neighbor when I was a kid was listening to the lyrics to "Drive My Car", and had a big problem with the line "…working for pea-nuts is all very fine…"

My favorite book as a kid. It was only somewhat remarked upon by the adults that it was really a girl's book. I didn't give a shit: I spent all my time spying on my neighbors, too.

I have this weird tendency to not notice musical movements while I'm right in the middle of them. I was listening to a lot of Steely Dan as grunge gathered steam, and was listening to a lot of bluegrass and gamelan while living in the town that gave the world the riot grrl movement.

No, I'm pretty sure you were tossed out for being boring, AD.

Finally got around to watching 'Cross of Iron' a few days ago. Nice how it draws distinctions between zealot party members, unrealistic aristocrats and just plain old soldiers. It is a lot more realistic a depiction, I think, than one usually gets.

I like what Lexicondevil had to say there: the "talk among yourselves" feature. Other websites do this on Fridays too, but they're generally just labelled "open threads" and kind of tend to be utterly directionless.

It is true that we kind of have the same discussions over and over again. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of saying that I felt Vonnegut's 'Galapagos' was an underappreciated book for the (I believe) twentieth time on this website.

Good save.

This too: I get where the basic theme in his books might be a bit on the trite side, but that's mainly because the world just keeps on shoving the same "source material" at us over and over again.

You mean "Breakin' 2: The Legendary Journeys"?

Neener neener!

Great book, though.

I see what you mean, but the phrasing does somewhat remind me of the online quiz: "Which ultimate beautiful woman are you?"
