The connections between the entries have gotten really tenuous, 2046 didn't have anything to do with the other films.

I really wish they made it for this year, because given how splintered the competition in Best Cinematography is, this might've been Deakins' year.

If the movie had been undeniable (which it sounds like it really isn't) and if Parker hadn't seemingly been intent on self-sabotage during press interviews and if there weren't many other great films coming out from black filmmakers with black casts, I might believe he and the movie had a serious chance. Given Parker's awful comments about black men playing gay characters, it would be utterly delicious if Moonlight stole all his thunder.

I'd be lying if I said part of me doesn't want to see this, but it sounds like, aside from the ickiness of a rapist adding extra rape to the history of a real historical figure, this combines self-importance, subpar aesthetics, and semi-narcissism, which, uh, no thanks.

It doesn't even sound like he really did that.
