And Jupiter Ascending!

Who do you think will be nominated for Best Cinematography this year? Who should be nominated?

Right after Jersey Girl bombed, he really ripped into Zsigmond, too, for not being his buddy, I guess (although he admitted right after Zsigmond died that he was being an asshole and that it was useful for Zsigmond to push him out of his comfort zone).

To be fair, given how extensively the movie was cut prior to its release, we don't know if Smith filmed him giving the whole speech and was "convinced" by the Weinsteins to cut to the chase.

So, uh, rank the films you watched in August.

See, I like her in that, it's the brother who I think is really lacking in that movie (he and Alex Pettyfer are the ones who always pop out at me when I think of bad Soderbergh-directed performances).

Based on set photos, his character is missing an arm, so they seem to have done just that.

And J.Lo was fantastic in Out of Sight.

Also in the cast: Riley Keough (who absolutely killed it on the TV show of The Girlfriend Experience), Katherine Waterston, and Jerry from Parks and Rec.

Heigl was good in Soderbergh's King of the Hill, I thought MacFarlane was a lot of fun in Hellboy 2 (not to mention his great vocal performances on American Dad, thankfully his only involvement with that show), and I can count the number of outright bad/lacking performances in Soderbergh projects on one hand, so I'm

Which later-period Soderbergh movie had a walrus-man? Is that what the disease in Contagion turned people into?

Yeah, it works pretty well within that sandbox (it even put a moderately fresh spin on "dad almost misses his child's big school performance" by virtue of what the performance was of).

I've only seen the trailer on my accord, because I was intrigued by Sing being directed by Garth Jennings, of Son of Rambow, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the videos for "Coffee and TV" and "Right Here Right Now" fame. Nope. Noooooooope, not even seeing that for him.

And now Denis Villeneuve's Arrival is getting great reviews out of Venice. What a world, where movies that look good end up being good.

Also, I hope that by some act of God, Silence ends up coming out this year. Marty (just barely) made it on time with his last movie, he can do it again!

Man, I know studios save their good movies for last each year, but this year seems particularly back-loaded, to the point that I may see more movies in these last two months than I've seen in the first ten.

As scathing as this review is, it's probably still too nice to Kevin Smith just because it suggests his inability to frame shots is merely a symptom of indifference on this particular movie.

What are you talking about? I only know Sebastian Stan from his bravura performance in Ricki and the Flash.
