So, it's not War Horse good? Disappointing.
That's the one, yeah.
It's a perfect combination of "eat your vegetables" Spielberg and master craftsman Spielberg.
I liked it for pretty much the same reasons I loved The Neon Demon; aesthetics and oddness trump all. And yes, dear god, Vittorio Storaro shoots the living shit out of it.
I rewatched Radio Days and Stardust Memories and watched Dick Tracy and The Neon Demon.
The Neon Demon made a whopping $606,594 this weekend, less than The Jungle Book in its 11th week of release. So, maybe that whole wide release idea wasn't the greatest plan after all.
Also, Arrow Video just announced that they'll be releasing all of Allen's movies from 1971-1991 in three Blu-Ray box sets in the U.K. (region-locked, unfortunately), the first one coming out in September and being announced just in time for the pound to plummet. I'll definitely be getting all three and happily selling…
September, which I think is the airless, lifeless, dull movie that everyone says Interiors is. I like the photography and production design, I like Elaine Stritch's monologue about aging, and I like that it has the decency to be barely feature-length, and that's about it.
Radio Days (second rewatch): The status of capital-m Masterpiece has been afforded to a few Woody Allen films, but I think it's terribly unfair that so few have done it for this film, which I think is better than all but one of those films (in particular, I'm kinda stumped by Hannah and Her Sisters getting that status…
I noticed you already talked about that, so I figured it was redundant.
Man, he was going to be the next Ken Loach, this is really disappointing.
Are you telling me the man who made that wonderful kitchen-sink drama Bronson has left realism behind?
I wrote you a song. It had "asshat fuckbucket" 72 times in it. Want to hear it?
I don't know if this tradition will carry on for any longer, but just recently, I watched the entirety of The Ben Stiller Show over two separate car trips and hotel stays. I think it might actually play best that way, for some reason I can't really ascertain.
I haven't seen too many of his films (only four thus far), but I already really like Crowe's brand of optimism (as baffled as I was by every decision in Aloha, I couldn't hate it because that would be like hating a puppy who keeps running into a brick wall). It's a shame this review makes it sound more like We Bought…
If you tell me that Kristin Scott Thomas isn't giving a 100% comedic performance in that movie, I don't know what to tell you.
If you haven't seen The Lobster by now, I highly recommend you skip it, then.
I will be very disappointed if this doesn't play near me because the intermission is getting so much hype from every single review that I have to see it for myself as soon as possible.
