They didn't kick him out of the HOF. They don't mention him these days, and took down his merchandise because they didn't need the blowback from people/advertisers, but he's still in the HOF. Austin, Hogan and Rock were multi-millionaires through wrestling alone. The movies (in Austin and Hogan's case, anyway) were just attempts to leverage the fame into something else.
